Our History

Birth of GONCIL

When the British came to India, they had no idea how God would use them as an instrument to bring the Indian people to Christ. Though Christianity was in India from first century, it was a very small group limited to a couple of pockets. When missionaries came to India, the church in India started to grow. But taking the Indians to British colonies around the world as indentured laborers had a higher impact on the religious life of Indians. In the Diaspora nations a lot of Indians became Christians. This is what happened in South Africa. By the end of the 20th century, Indian Christian leaders came to realize that their brethren in other nations also have embraced Christianity. Today Indian Christians are found on all continents of the earth and in many island nations. It is this awareness awakened in the heart of S. African Indian community by Dr. Sunny Philip that led to the birth of GONCIL in 2004.

Our Conferences

The first conference was  held in Chatsworth, South Africa. We saw delegates from 23 different nations in that conference. As an introductory conference, it was a great success.

Our second conference was held in Mumabi, India in 2007. Attendance wise, it was the largest conference we have had so far. Since it allowed delegates from all over India to attend easily, we had over 1300 delegates from 30 different nations. Night meetings had attendance of about 5000 people.

Our third conference was in New York in 2010. We had 400 delegates from 34 different nations.

The subsequent conferences planned for Mauritius and Dubai did not materialize for various reasons.

So after a gap of six years, GONCIL is getting ready for its next conference in Chatsworth, Durban, South Africa in 2017.

Our Next Conference

Christian Revival Centre of Chatsworth, Durban, South Africa will be hosting our next conference scheduled to take place from September 12 to 15, 2017. We are expecting delegates from over 40 nations to attend this conference.
